    HOW DO I GET A CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMIT?
  1. Pick a Provider
    Authorized providers will have a SLED Instructor permit and test per SLED's requirements
    All lesson plans are derived from the same basic material and use the same Exam
  2. Reserve a Seat - Why Wait, Again?
    If it is NOT a priority for you, you'll be reading this same information a year from now. (Right, Harris?) Go ahead, MAKE THE RESERVATION and follow through. Talk it up and bring your friends with you.   Don't ask them if they want to take the class. TELL THEM you are taking it and THEY should join YOU.   Start being the Sheep Dog.   If you weren't tired of being the Sheep, you wouldn't be reading this page.
    Remember: IF YOU NEED IT TOMORROW, YOU'RE NINETY DAYS TOO LATE!
  3. Complete the class
    SC law requires you to spend Eight hours in Instruction. You'll be very glad you took the time to listen to the information. I've not heard anyone say they learned nothing from the mandated material.   Though you could read most of the material for yourself on the web, hearing some explanation of the numerous nuiances of SC Gun Law may keep you out of the trouble that may have otherwise "blind-sided" you were you able to forego the training.
  4. Send in the App Packet***** CWP Application. Open, Complete, THEN PRINT
    The sooner you post it, the sooner it's processed.   You may have it at the classroom with you.   Once you get an Instructor number on your certificate and a signed certificate copy, you may mail your packet.   There is a checklist on the front of the application to help ensure you get everything in the envelope at once.
    Not all list items may apply to you.   Just worry about the items that do. {ie., If you're not a disabled veteran, there's no way you can provide that documentation, etc.}
  5. WAIT - PATIENTLY
    and don't call SLED until day 100.   Lately, some have received permits w/in 70 days.   SLED really doesn't hold the card from the mail until the last day.
    While you're waiting, spend your bored time on the Concealment or Armed Friendly websites and forums. You'll find a wealth of information and numerous folks that enjoy bantering, querying, and prying into new and old information, tactics, test results, etc. regarding all sorts of firearms and topics.

You can find any number of interesting Firearm related Training sites, or just Talking sites. Be sure to look around before settling on just one or two.   Consider every piece of advice for logic, application, and reality; does it make sense to YOU?   Even the most outlandish tales may seem to a novice a logical possibility if told by a skilled conversationalist. Don't believe everything you hear, even from across the counter at a Gunshop.   However, a Gunshop clerk is usually more savvy than a Sports-clerk at Wally-mart, Richards, or Trouts'R'Us.
